Former New York Knicks guard and current Madison Square Garden constant Allan Houston has emerged as a candidate for a front office promotion, according to Stefan Bondy of The New York Daily News.

The Knicks are expected to officially hire and introduce former NBA agent Leon Rose as their new president once he ties up some loose ends with CAA:

As Leon Rose prepares for his imminent takeover, Garden constant Allan Houston has emerged as a candidate for a front office promotion, a league source told the Daily News.

The former All-Star, 48, is currently the GM of the G-League affiliate in Westchester and has been a Knicks executive since 2008, surviving multiple regime changes while being groomed for a larger role. He also served as the Knicks assistant GM before and during Phil Jackson’s tenure.

Knicks owner James Dolan began exploring the front-office model of hiring a player agent shortly after firing Steve Mills. The Golden State Warriors under Bob Myers and the Los Angeles Lakers under Rob Pelinka have had success with the said model.

New York is desperately hoping that Rose will essentially be its savior.

The Knicks’ roster is pretty flawed right now, so Rose’s main priority moving forward is to hire the right coach to lead the franchise. He reportedly will have Jeff Van Gundy and Tom Thibodeau on his coaching search list since both Van Gundy and Thibs have a rapport with him.

New York will miss the playoffs again this season. They fired David Fizdale and reassigned Steve Mills in the same season, which isn't ideal but has freed up a spot for Rose and possibly a well-known coach.
