As the 2017-18 NBA season quickly approaches, there is no clarity on Carmelo Anthony's future with the New York Knicks. With Anthony willing to waive his no-trade clause for the Houston Rockets, the Knicks new front office is patiently evaluating their options.

With more than 100 kids at the Mack Sports Complex wearing the No. 7 jersey, assistant general manager Allan Houston was asked if Anthony would remain with the Knicks according to Bob Herzog of Newsday:

“That’s not for me to speak on,” Houston said with a laugh. “That’s for the boss.”

After President Phil Jackson was fired shortly after the 2017 NBA Draft, Steve Mills was promoted to his position and Scott Perry joined as general manager. As Anthony is eyeing the Rockets, Houston is reportedly offering Ryan Anderson's remaining three-year, $60 million deal.

With the Knicks currently unwilling to take on Anderson's contract, they are hoping Anthony expands his list of destinations or a third team enters trade discussions. A potential third team could reportedly be the Portland Trail Blazers as Moe Harkless would reunite with Perry in New York.

For the Knicks, they would be wise to enter a full rebuild with Kristaps Porzingis. With Porzingis establishing himself as one of the rising stars in the league, making him the team's first option may attract free agents in the near future.
