Allan Houston is reportedly a strong candidate to have an expanded role in the New York Knicks' front office led by former NBA agent Leon Rose, per Stefan Bondy of The New York Daily News.

Houston currently is the special assistant to Knicks general manager Scott Perry. He's been working with the franchise since 2008:

Allan Houston, as the Daily News reported, is another strong candidate for a larger role in Rose’s staff. Houston, who is the special assistant to the Knicks GM, has been traveling and working more with the players. Rose’s biggest hire for the front office will be the GM.

The Knicks were going to miss the playoffs again this season. New York fired head coach David Fizdale and reassigned president Steve Mills in the same season, which wasn't ideal, but it did free up a spot for Rose and possibly a well-known coach if Rose decides to move on from Mike Miller.

Houston played 602 regular season games for the Knicks. He finished his New York career with averages of 18.5 points, 3.1 rebounds and 2.5 assists.

The last time the Knicks had a winning record and made the postseason was all the way back in 2012-13. Only time will tell if Rose will be the guy who can finally save the Knicks.

Phil Jackson wasn't able to do it, neither was Carmelo Anthony.

Knicks owner James Dolan began exploring the front-office model of hiring a player agent shortly after firing Mills. The Golden State Warriors under Bob Myers and Los Angeles Lakers under Rob Pelinka have had success with the said model, so Dolan figured he might as well try it.
