The New York Knicks have gotten off to a surprising start to the 2017-18 NBA season, thanks largely to the emergence presence of big man Kristaps Porzingis. His physical stature and dynamic skill set have left fans and players alike in awe.
Among them is Knicks legend Bernard King. According to Marc Berman of the New York Post, King was marveled by Kristaps Porzingis' ability to hit the deep ball:
“I’m sitting there watching the game against Charlotte,’’ King said. “He’s hitting shots 3 feet behind the 3-point line. It’s unheard of. I’ve never seen anything like it. And he’s capable of hitting mid-range and posting up.’’
King later added that he was also impressed by the Unicorn's overall basketball IQ.
“There’s been a number of players who’ve played with significant height advantages — at 7-3, 7-5, 7-7,’’ King said. “I’ve always said height doesn’t play basketball but talent does. Porzingis is an exceptionally talented young man but beyond, he has a tremendous basketball IQ.”
As arguably the purest scorer in Knicks history, Bernard King's comments certainly carry some weight. Kristaps Porzingis' mental and physical capabilities are the main reason why he has been dubbed “The Unicorn.”
His dynamic repertoire has helped him average 30.4 points and 2.3 blocks while shooting 41.8 percent from the 3-point line. More importantly, he looks poised to become the next face of this storied franchise as King once was.
