Bobby Portis a big fan of Knicks’ Julius Randle signing

When the New York Knicks missed out on their top free agent targets last month, they immediately signed some veteran players to make good use of their huge amount of cap space. One of their key signings this summer is athletic forward Julius Randle. Randle is coming off a great season with the New Orleans Pelicans, where he averaged 21.4 points, 8.7 rebounds, and 3.1 assists. He’s expected to have an even better year with the Knicks, especially since he is arguably the team’s best player. Another Knicks newcomer, Bobby Portis, liked this move by the team. He told Basketball Insiders’ David Yapkowitz in an interview that Randle is a bruiser and can play at an elite level on a nightly basis.

“I love that they signed Julius [Randle], that’s another guy that can bang and really play at a high level. I love everything David was talking about with me in the meeting that I had with him.”

Although the Knicks are projected to be one of the worst teams in the NBA yet again, their players, from rookies to veterans, are optimistic that the team can compete for a playoff spot next season, and Randle will play a huge part in making that happen. If he can produce better numbers than what he had last season, then the Knicks might just have a chance of sneaking into the eighth or seventh seed in the East. Not only that; he could also become an All-Star for the first time in his career.

Only time will tell if Randle can live up to the expectations of Portis and the tons of extremely frustrated Knicks fans, who just wants to see their franchise succeed.
