New York may be known as The City That Never Sleeps, but for big man Bobby Portis, it's now the city of his dreams.
The unrestricted free agent, 24, signed a two-year deal with the New York Knicks this offseason. Portis is calling signing with the Knicks “a dream come true.”
Portis said that and more while in Las Vegas visiting New York's Summer League team and watching the NBA neophytes get at it in the exhibition games.
Per Mike Vorkunov in The Athletic:
Portis last played for the Washington Wizards and Chicago Bulls. Chicago sent him to the D.C. franchise in February of this year at the NBA's trade deadline with Jabari Parker and a 2023 second-round pick for Otto Porter Jr. Portis, the four-year NBA veteran power forward, was drafted by the Bulls with the 22nd overall pick in the first round of the 2015 draft.
He has extended his game to include long-range shooting, averaging 36.1% from beyond the 3-point arc and shooting 39.3% from deep during the 2018-19 season.
The Knicks signed Portis to a two-year deal worth $31 million but included a team option on the second year, so he could essentially be playing in a contract year again, trying to prove why New York should exercise its option for next season and keep the 6-foot-11 big man.
