Derrick Rose is a Chicago legend. The New York Knicks point guard came into the league as an electrifying MVP candidate for the Chicago Bulls. Illinois fans have always appreciated Rose's contributions for the franchise even after his departure, showering him with standing ovations and MVP chants when he returns to United Center.

Which makes it THIS sequence all  the more confusing. During the Knicks' visit in Chicago, Derrick Rose was set to check in. Of course, Bulls fans cheered loudly for him. However, the home announcer thought differently about who the recipient of those cheers… (via Hoop Central)

Welp, it happens to the best of us. Just as Rose was about to check in to the game, Bulls rookie Ayo Dosunmu and Javonte Green were set to also enter the game. The commentator, who was likely focused on who the home teams was fielding in, assumed the cheers were for the popular rookie. Luckily, Bulls legend Stacey King corrected the commentator (who was apparently a back-up), noting that the cheers were for Rose, who subbed in for the Knicks.

Rose's popularity in Chicago cannot be understated. Despite a tragic end to his Bulls career, the Knicks point guard is very much loved by his former teams. During Rose's first stint in New York, he'd get a much-deserved standing ovation when he was introduced. He also routinely got MVP chants, such as when he dropped 24 points in United Center as a Timberwolves player.

Rose also has love for his old team to this day. When asked about the new look of the team during the Knicks' first road game versus the Bulls, Rose had high praise, saying:

“I hear about the excitement that’s going on… I know it’s great for the city to lock in and understand they have a really good team,”
