It has recently been reported that 7-foot-3 big man Hasheem Thabeet has been taking part in some informal scrimmages with the New York Knicks. This is via Ian Begley of SNY.

Former No. 2 overall pick Hasheem Thabeet has been participating in informal scrimmages with some of the Knicks in New York City this week and is expected to be with the club for at least the next few days, per SNY sources.

The Knicks are reportedly looking at Thabeet as a possible addition to the squad's training camp roster. At the moment, New York is expected to start rising star Mitchell Robinson at the five spot. Beyond him, though, the only other bigs in the squad are Taj Gibson and Bobby Portis — both of whom are natural power forwards — so in this regard, the team may need some reinforcements in the frontcourt.

Aside from Thabeet, it is also being reported that Carmelo Anthony will also be joining the Knicks scrimmage — albeit in an informal capacity.

This new piece of information is likely to receive some mixed reactions from Knicks supporters. Melo achieved legendary status in New York during his playing days, but some fans might not be too pleased with how he parted ways with the squad a couple of years ago.

Then again, Anthony still appears to have some gas left in the tank, and considering how the Knicks are not expected to be competitive this season, the addition for Melo should do more good than harm. New York's youngsters could learn a thing or two from the 10-time All-Star, and surely, Anthony will be more than willing to fulfill a mentoring role at this point in his career.
