Charles Oakley doesn't believe that Patrick Ewing is the right man for the New York Knicks head coaching job.

The long-time Knicks forward spoke with TMZ Sports and said that they need a different kind of coach than the Knicks legend.

“Ya gotta be a different type of coach than Patrick,” Oak tells us. “I think he tried before and they didn’t hire him. So, I don’t know. We’ll see what happens.”

It also appears like Oak has some issues with his former teammate. According to Oakley, Ewing didn't reach out to him when Knicks owner James Dolan banned him at Madison Square Garden following a controversial incident at a Knicks home game.

Ewing currently serves as the head coach of Georgetown University. He has been manning the sidelines of his alma mater since 2017.

The 11-time NBA All-Star ventured into coaching after his retirement from the game in 2002. He has never been a head coach in the NBA, but has served as assistant coach with four teams: the Washington Wizards, the Houston Rockets, the Orlando Magic, and most recently the Charlotte Hornets.

Oakley did have another former Knick in mind who he thinks would be perfect for the role: Mark Jackson.

Jackson is currently an in-game analyst for ESPN. He previously served as head coach of the Golden State Warriors from 2011 to 2014.

Many believe that the former Knicks guard built the foundation that eventually turned the Warriors into a dynasty. Perhaps he can establish a positive culture and environment that this young Knicks squad needs badly.

New York will need to be patient and thorough in their search to find the right man to revive their sunken ship.  Whether it will be Ewing, Jackson, or some other candidate, whoever they will eventually hire will surely have his work cut out for him.
