The New York Knicks have confirmed that veteran shooting guard Courtney Lee will not make his season debut on Friday against the Dallas Mavericks. The 32-year-old is still dealing with a neck/back issue that has been bothering him since the preseason, and based on this recent report, Lee will be forced to sit out at least one more game for the Knicks.

The team have not provided a timetable for the return of Lee, and his absence continues to be announced hours before each game. We don't really know what to make of this rather mysterious injury, as the Knicks have also been stingy in providing the details of Lee's situation.

What is clear though is that the Knicks do not appear to be in any hurry to bring back the 10-year veteran. In fact, the team have reportedly explored the possibility of trading away Lee, but currently, to no avail. The emergence of Tim Hardaway Jr., the offseason signing of Mario Hezonja, and a completely loaded Knicks backcourt have all combined to make the Lee the odd man out.

The Western Kentucky University alum still has two seasons remaining in his $84 million, four-year deal. The Knicks may find it difficult to offload Lee and the $25 million he is owed within the next two years.

In two seasons in New York, Lee has averaged a serviceable 11.4 points on 45.5 percent shooting, 1.4 3-pointers, 3.2 rebounds, 2.3 assists, and 1.1 steals 31.2 minutes per contest. Nonetheless, it is not impossible to think that we might never see Lee dawn the Knicks jersey again.
