The New York Knicks are currently not competing in the NBA playoffs after finishing the regular season with a poor 29-53 record. For now, the Knicks are busying themselves finding a new mentor on the heels of Jeff Hornacek’s dismissal as head coach of the franchise.

According to Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN, New York’s top management is currently looking at a pair of coaching candidates in the form of former Cleveland Cavaliers head coach David Blatt and current San Antonio Spurs assistant coach James Borrego.

The Knicks are meeting with David Blatt in Europe next week on head coaching job, and plan also to interview Spurs assistant coach James Borrego, league sources tell me and Ian Begley.

David Blatt is a familiar name to NBA fans, as he coached the Cavs from 2014 to 2016. He was at the helm when Cleveland went all the way into the 2015 NBA Finals, where they succumbed to Stephen Curry and the Golden State Warriors. Blatt was sacked by the Cavs in January of 2016 and has since moved to Europe. He is currently the coach of Darüşşafaka S.K in the Turkish Super League. He compiled an 83-40 record in 123 games as head coach of the Cavs.

As for Borrego, aside from serving as an assistant to Gregg Popovich in San Antonio, he also once filled in the role of interim head coach for the Orlando Magic in 2015.

Th Knicks have not been to the playoffs since 2013, which was also the time New York enjoyed a winning record.
