David Fizdale has only been on the job for a few days but he has already made it clear how important Kristaps Porzingis is to the team, and also how much he expects out of the young superstar.

Appearing on Get UP on ESPN, Fizdale talked about his expectations; and he isn't afraid of having large ones.

“I hope I can add to his game, put him in positions to be an MVP candidate, if not MVP. A defensive player of the year candidate, if not defensive player of the year. Im asking him to do everything but that’s what megastars do.”

Fizdale has these lofty expectations, but the most important thing to do right now is to try and repair the relationship between the Knicks and Porzingis.

It was just a little over 12 months ago, that Porzingas had skipped the exit interviews with Steve Mills and Phil Jackson because he was frustrated with the way the franchise was operating. Although there have been steps in the right direction for repairing the relationship, it isn't fully repaired yet.

According to Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN, Fizdale isn't waiting long to try and completely repair that. He is expected to fly out to Latvia soon and visit the All-Star center.

Depending on how that meeting goes, the Knicks are going to have a very important decision to make with Porzingis soon.

Porzingas is still recovering from his ACL injury, but he is eligible for a five year, $157 million contract extension this summer.
