Former Knicks head coach David Fizdale is hoping Mike Miller will get a chance to stay with the team beyond the season, according to a report from SNY.

Fizdale hired Miller as an assistant prior to the start of this season. Fizdale, however, was later relieved of his duties as head coach of the Knicks due to a sluggish start. Despite this fact, Fizdale hopes that Miller, who is currently serving as New York's interim head coach, will get a chance to “stay beyond this year.”

“I hope Mike, who I remain in touch with, and the players there can continue to build on what we started together,” Fizdale said, via SNY.

“I'm very proud of the job Mike and the staff are doing,” Fizdale added.

Miller has had some success as a coach. The 55-year-old basketball lifer was named G League coach of the year in 2017-18 for his role with the Westchester Knicks. He spent four seasons with Westchester before being promoted to an assistant position with the Knicks.

Via Fred Kerber of The New York Post:

“He hasn’t had an easy path in coaching,” said TV analyst and former Knicks coach Jeff Van Gundy, who had Miller on his 2018 USA World Cup Qualifying Team coaching staff. “Give him a lot of credit for all the work he has put in to get to this point. He’s a no-nonsense, straight-shooting, not-looking-for-any-limelight guy. He just wants to coach basketball and do the best job he can to help the players.”

The Knicks have struggled to find any sort of a rhythm this season, as their 12-33 overall record can attest. Miller, who has a plethora of experience in coaching, is doing his best to keep the team moving in the right direction.
