New York Knicks head coach David Fizdale appears to be adamant when it comes to his role in the Kristaps Porzingis saga last season. According to the 45-year-old shot-caller, he is pretty certain that he had nothing to do with the former Knick cornerstone superstar's decision to force a move away from the club.

“Kristaps and I, our relationship was fantastic,’’ said Fizdale, via Marc Berman of the New York Post. “For whatever reasons, he had to make his decisions. I don’t think it had anything to do with me.”

That's pretty confident and assuming from Fizdale right there, who is clearly trying to wash his hands from what was a complete mess involving the high-profile exit of Porzingis.

For his part, Fizdale was quick to remind everyone that one of his first moves when he was hired as the Knicks' head coach in 2018 was to personally fly to Latvia to build a functional working relationship with his then-superstar big man.

“He and I discussed a lot of stuff,’’ Fizdale said. “We had a lot of conversations. Obviously I went and spent a ton of time with him. He had to do with what he thought was right for him. And I respect that. This league, ultimately you never know when you’re going to cross paths again and when you’re going — you may end up coaching the guy again.”

Coach Fizdale just dropped a mini bomb at the end of that statement by opening the prospect of reuniting with Porzingis somewhere down the line. At this point, Fizdale might just be taking a step closer towards this goal of his pretty soon, with his current position as New York's head coach seemingly in the balance following what has been an atrocious start to the new season.
