The New York Knicks have officially hired David Fizdale to be their coach for the net few years, and it might be the one of the few things the Knicks have done right over the last couple of years along with drafting Kristaps Porzingis and letting Phil Jackson go.

The hiring of Fizdale marks the start of a new era in New York. Fizdale appeared on ESPN's show ‘Get Up,' and, discussed the types of players he wants on his team. According to the network's Ian Begley, Fizdale said that this new era in New York will not feature any ‘cupcakes.'

“Long and tough. But he's gotta have an edge to him. I don't want soft guys here. I don't want cupcakes. I want guys that have an edge to them, that enjoy defending. That get joy out of locking teams down.”

Well, it's a good thing Kevin Durant opted to stay with the Golden State Warriors because he clearly wouldn't be welcome in New York.

All jokes aside, Fizdale is as serious as it gets, and he definitely means it when he says he wants high-character guys to build with. Just last month, when the Knicks were still doing their coaching search, General Manager Steve Mills, who led the thorough, multi-week search for the right coach, said that he wants a guy who will hold players accountable.

“We're going to be looking for a coach who holds the players accountable and his coaching staff accountable. Not only a good basketball mind but a very skilled communicator. A guy who can connect very well with his players and is equally aligned with wanting to be a very strong defensive-minded team that won't only resonate with the candidate we want, but New Yorkers.”

Think the Knicks found their guy? It'll be interesting to see what New York does in free agency after all that's been said so far.
