The New York Knicks have a chance of winning the first overall pick in the 2019 NBA Draft when the lottery takes place on Tuesday. Head coach David Fizdale has wasted no time in confirming forward Zion Williamson as their potential choice if they win.

There has been plenty of speculation regarding which team will land Williamson's services. Fizdale made it clear that he would be the Knicks' choice, via Ian Begley of SNY:

“If we win the lottery, do we know who we're taking?” the Knicks coach said in an interview with the “Dan Patrick Show.”

“Yes.”

Fizdale's comments should hardly come as any surprise. Williamson emerged as a social media icon thanks to his high-flying dunks in high school. He followed through on the hype by establishing himself as the best player in the nation at Duke. His status as the No. 1 overall pick now seems to be a foregone conclusion.

Taking Williamson would make the most sense for the Knicks. The city of New York is desperate for more star power at Madison Square Garden and he will have an opportunity to make an immediate impact for a team looking to figure out its identity. It is clear that Fizdale is already enamored with the prospect of drawing up a game plan with the coveted rookie.

Aside from being in a position to add Williamson, the Knicks have also been linked to a number of future free agents this offseason. Rumors have surfaced that star players like point guard Kyrie Irving and forward Kevin Durant have a strong interest in playing for New York. In order to do so, they may first have to be out the Phoenix Suns and Cleveland Cavaliers for the No. 1 pick in the lottery.
