It has been a bit of a bumpy ride for New York Knicks guard Emmanuel Mudiay in the NBA. However, what cannot be denied is the fact that he has looked much better this year compared to the beginning of his career.

Mudiay himself admitted that he was not in the best shape when he arrived in New York following a trade from the Denver Nuggets back in February. According to Stefan Bondy of the New York Daily News, this was the primary focus of Mudiay and his camp last summer:

His big adjustment in the offseason was getting in better shape, which was a challenge issued by the GM Scott Perry. Mudiay acknowledged to the News that he was in poor condition when dealt to New York in February.

The solution?

“Stop eating so much fried food,” he said.

The hard work appears to have paid off for Mudiay, as he is currently having the best year of his career. The 22-year-old is now averaging a career-high 14.2 points (on 46.4 percent shooting), 2.9 rebounds, 3.8 assists, 0.8 steals, 0.4 blocks, and 1.9 turnovers in 26.0 minutes per contest. Mudiay has been hot in December, scoring at least 28 points on four separate occasions this month.

Mudiay did roll his ankle on Saturday when the Knicks faced the Utah Jazz, and based on how it looked, it wouldn't be surprising if the 6-foot-5 guard misses some games due to the injury. The Knicks do have two nights off before they are slated to face the Denver Nuggets on Tuesday, so the hope is Mudiay is able to recover in time for that matchup.
