The New York Knicks shocked the NBA world when they traded young star Kristaps Porzingis to the Dallas Mavericks on Thursday, and fellow Knicks big man Enes Kanter said that seeing Porzingis dealt was not a great time:

“It was definitely a sad moment,” said Kanter, according to Mike Vorkunov of The Athletic. “I wish him the best.”

Of course, Kanter himself may not be in New York for much longer, as the center has seen his playing time dwindling since late December.

Asked if he was surprised that he wasn't the one traded, Kanter said absolutely:

“It was actually, yes, surprising,” he said, per Vokunov. “I heard there was a trade and I was ‘Uh, oh, okay.' It just didn't happen. Gotta wait, I guess.”

I hate to break this news to you, Enes, but you might be waiting an awful long time if you expect the Knicks to find a trade for you.

While there seems to be a very good chance that New York will end up buying out Kanter sometime over the next month, the chances of the Knicks successfully trading him appear to be very slim.

The 26-year-old is making $18 million this season, making him a very difficult salary to match without taking back money beyond this year, something New York unequivocally does not want to do.

There was a time when Kanter would have had a very big role in the NBA, but with the league moving more and more toward floor spacing and defensive versatility, his usefulness has been diminished greatly.
