It’s always nice to have some optimism in life, but Enes Kanter’s positivism of his New York Knicks could be bordering on the quixotic.

Speaking to Adam Zagoria of SNY.tv on Thursday, the Turkish big man bared his confidence about the Knickerbockers’ chances of reserving a spot in the playoffs this season.

“Let me tell you something, man, people don't know it,” Kanter told SNY.tv. “People are saying that we're so young, whatever. People don't understand, if you're young, that means we got fresh legs. We got a lot of energy, we can compete. So I don't think it's an excuse, we can take advantage of that. Whenever we're out there, just compete and just do our best.”

“If we stay together and we play our basketball, yes I believe it”

To be fair, the Knicks are 4-4, and recently ripped a three-game win streak that included a victory over the defending Eastern Conference champs Cleveland Cavaliers. Perhaps that’s where Enes Kanter got the guts to tell people that the Knicks are a playoff-quality team because we didn’t hear him say that when New York kicked off the season with a 0-3 record.

The Knicks entered the season minus longtime franchise face Carmelo Anthony, who was traded by the Knicks to the Oklahoma City Thunder back in the offseason in exchange for Enes Kanter, Doug McDermott, and a future draft pick, and only had Tim Hardaway Jr. as the team’s key free agent signing.

The Knicks have Kristaps Porzingis as their undeniable star, but there is a dearth of talent around him which makes it unlikely that the Knicks are going to break their four-year streak of playoff absences this season.
