New York Knicks big man Enes Kanter has a major decision to make this summer, as he could opt into the $18.6 million player-option for 2018-19 or opt out of it, seeking a long-term deal.

The Turkish international said previously after the season that he would opt out, only to be contradicted by his agent, who said his client spoke rashly.

Kanter has since been mum on his future, undecided as to what is the best route to take.

“The only thing I’m doing right now is waiting for the draft,” Kanter told Mike Vorkunov of The Athletic. “After the draft we’ll see what’s going to happen. Because the draft a lot of things can change, for the Knicks and for the whole league. Because people are going to leave. Waiting for LeBron to decide and everything. I’m waiting for the draft to happen and then we’ll see.”

His decision could have a major effect on the Knicks' future, as $18.6 million could clog any free agency plans the organization has in mind.

“It’s a tough summer,” he said. “It’s a very tough summer. But we’ll see, though. If the smartest thing is to opt in, I’ll opt in. If the smartest thing is to opt out, I’ll opt out. We’ll see. I’ll talk to the Knicks, too, of course.”

Kanter took many by surprise, kickstarting his very own campaign to recruit LeBron James as a free agent, though the Knicks don't stand as good a chance to lure him in with other teams in a much better salary cap standing and roster ready for his inclusion.
