In the last couple of seasons with the New York Knicks, it had become a tumultuous situation for All-Star forward Carmelo Anthony's standing within the organization.

There was no shortage of issues around the entire ordeal that made it a toxic environment. All of this had come to head during the offseason with Anthony finally making an internal push to be moved by the organization. Prior to being traded, Ian Begley of ESPN is reporting that there was a buyout in place that was essentially vetoed by team owner James Dolan.

There was a buyout agreement in place that was vetoed by Knicks owner James Dolan.

ESPN’s Ramona Shelburne reported that the franchise decided it would not buy out Anthony, a sticking point that was one factor behind owner James Dolan’s parting ways with Jackson shortly after the draft.

Although it's unclear who Anthony agreed to a buyout with, but that only further complicated the situation involving the 33-year-old's future in New York. The fact that it reached that point was a huge indicator of where things were heading with or without Phil Jackson in place.

These details just add to what had become a difficult place that Anthony believed that he could no longer operate in. It also shows the utter amount of dysfunction that the organization had during that time with Dolan continually intervening in front office's matters.

Ultimately, it was a situation that the only resolution had become to both let go of Jackson and move on from Anthony in order for the franchise to take a step forward.
