New York Knicks head coach David Fizdale is good friends with NBA Hall of Famer Jason Kidd, so he figured he would have the point guard legend chop it up with his two youngsters, Emmanuel Mudiay and Dennis Smith Jr.

Fizdale calls Kidd a “basketball genius” and appreciates the 45-year-old for taking time out of his day to talk with Mudiay and Smith Jr.

“That’s a real big-time one over there,’’ Fizdale told Marc Berman of the New York Post. “We’ve been friends a long time – go back to high school days. I figure we’re here. Who better to talk to my point guards than one of the best and greatest ever?

“That guy’s a basketball genius.”

The Knicks acquired Smith Jr. from the Dallas Mavericks in the Kristaps Porzingis trade. New York is hoping the explosive guard will be the franchise guard for years to come.

Mudiay, meanwhile, has the potential to be a force behind Smith Jr. due to his size. Here's what he had to say about speaking with Kidd:

“Everyone knows his history as a Hall of Famer,’’ said Mudiay. “I really appreciate him coming to talk to me and Dennis. It’s helpful. Not going to say everything he said, but just management throughout the game.’’

The Knicks take on the Phoenix Suns on Wednesday night.
