Dennis Smith Jr. had a forgettable start with the New York Knicks this 2019-20 season, but Utah Jazz star Donovan Mitchell wants New York fans to be patient.

During the Knicks' showdown with the Boston Celtics, fans chanted “We Want Frank” as DSJ continued to struggle — calling for David Fizdale to play Frnch point guard Frank Ntilikina instead.

It was a tough scene, especially for the young guard who is still trying to get his rhythm.

Mitchell, however, saw the video online and came to the defense of the Knicks point guard.

While this certainly hasn't gone unnoticed among the Knicks' coaching staff, New York head coach David Fizdale still has faith in both his team and specifically Smith Jr.

It is safe to say that Fizdale isn't ready to panic just three games into the campaign, which have come against some talented teams in the San Antonio Spurs, Brooklyn Nets and Boston Celtics.

“Our fans are passionate. I get it,’’ Fizdale said of the hometown crowd's reaction to Smith Jr. and his play against the rival Celtics, via Marc Berman of The New York Post. “The kid is obviously struggling. We’ll look at the situation and continue to adjust. [Knicks fans] know what they like and what they want. It doesn’t do anything to my mindset. I’m going to coach this team.’’

In addition to Smith Jr. and Ntilikina, the Knicks also have the likes of Elfid Payton, Alonzo Trier and even rookie RJ Barrett at the point guard position.
