New York Knicks rookie forward Kevin Knox is putting his personal accomplishments to the side and honing into the organization's immediate goals, leaving any Rookie of the Year aspirations as a casualty while focusing on racking up wins despite a sizable absence, according to Marc Berman of the New York Post.

“I’m pretty confident I can be one of the top rookies,” Knox said at the photo event staged at the Knicks’ Tarrytown campus. “But one of my goals this year is just to win in New York. I’m not really worried about winning the rookie award. I just want to win as a team, take road games, play some of the top teams and beat them to make the playoffs. Ultimately I want to win. That’s my main focus as my rookie year.”

That sizable absence is that of the 7-foot-3 Kristaps Porzingis, who could potentially miss the entire season with a torn ACL that ended his 2017-18 campaign in February.

Knox is already geared to be the answer at small forward with a long and strong 6-foot-9 frame that boasts the explosiveness and physical ability of the modern NBA 3-man, combined with a deadly stroke from the perimeter. The 19-year-old can also play the other forward spot in smaller lineups.

While Knox can't wait for the day to play alongside the unicorn, he's laser-focused into his own growth and hoping to make an impact whether Porzingis is ready to return or not.

“I’ll let him handle that, the training staff handle that,” Knox said. “I’m going to continue getting better as a person. But it would be great to be able to get him back the first game of the season and be able to play with him.”

The Knicks finished 29-53 last season after missing Porzingis for the last two months. They are now hoping Knox can help elevate them whether Porzingis is ready to make his return or not.
