After Kristaps Porzingis skipped his exit interview with then-New York Knicks President Phil Jackson to finish the 2016-17 NBA season, there were numerous trade rumors surrounding the fourth overall pick in the 2015 NBA Draft. With the Knicks and Jackson parting ways shortly after, the focus is back on Carmelo Anthony's uncertain future as he eyes the Houston Rockets.

From being booed on draft night to unexpected trade rumors, it has not been a stable environment for Porzingis in his short time in New York. Heading into his third season, Porzingis discussed how Conor McGregor is inspiring him, according to Shaun Powell of NBA.com:

“I want to improve the mental side. I’m actually amazed by Conor McGregor. I’ve been watching so many of his videos, trash talking, how mentally strong he is. I’ve been really interested in that kind of stuff.”

In four short years, McGregor has become the face of mixed martial arts. After winning the UFC Lightweight Championship against Eddie Alvarez, McGregor became the first fighter in company history to hold belts in two weight classes (Featherweight Championship) simultaneously. Now, he will face Floyd Mayweather in the highly-anticipated boxing match on Aug. 26.

As for Porzingis, there is a lot to learn from the two-weight world champion in preparation for the new season. While McGregor is known for his trash-talking during press conferences, his confidence has never wavered as he faces new challenges and proves his doubters wrong in the Octagon.
