Following the end of the 2016-17 season, there was much made about New York Knicks forward Kristaps Porzingis skipping out on his exit interview with the team.

It had come after the conclusion of a disappointing campaign that saw much internal conflict arise centered around then-team president Phil Jackson's handling of the organization. Porzingis' actions were seen as a way of showing his disgruntlement with the entire situation.

However, the 22-year-old's brother; Janis, has recently revealed that the decision to skip out on the interview was a planned step in order to better have his standing with the team resonate louder, according to Stefan Bondy of the New York Daily News.

“(Skipping the exit interview) wasn’t an emotional decision,” Janis said, according to a translation from EuroHoops.net. “It wasn’t a spontaneous action. We had been thinking about it for a long time and it was considered an honest, well-thought decision we came up with together. It was a logical next step for us, without which we would’ve been in one situation, but now after we did it – we are in another.”

Although it led to Jackson temporarily shopping around Porzingis, it eventually paved the way to his firing from the team. It had become an increasingly toxic situation that was having a major impact on the future of the team.

There was a clear agenda to move on from Anthony, but Porzingis was seemingly always seen as the player that could eventually take over as the face of the franchise. He has become a rising star in the league and has taken that a step further through the first few games of this season.

Things may have been quite murky for a stretch of time during the offseason, but it appears that it has the potential to pan out for the betterment of the Knicks' future moving forward.
