For David Fizdale to work with the New York Knicks, his relationship with Kristaps Porzingis, and getting him to buy in is most important.

It appears that Fizdale has reached out to the Knicks big man and he seems very excited about the new hire. Porzingis tweeted out Thursday that he just got off the phone with coach Fizdale and that he's excited.

This was the first time that Porzingis has said anything publicly since the hiring of Fizdale earlier this month. On top of that, the Knicks and Porzingis reportedly have a bit of a rocky relationship after the Phil Jackson era, it made some people wonder what exactly he was thinking.

Fizdale only had great things to say about Porzingis, and even said he would be making a few trips to Europe during the offseason to see Porzingis and get a feel for his recovery.

At the combine, Fizdale said he would take a step-by-step approach to building the relationship with Porzingis.

“I won't skip a step. I'll spend a ton of time with he and his family,” Fizdale said via ESPN. “I want to hear their experience and what they see going forward for Kristaps and how I can interject and help him in any way become what I think he can be, which is an MVP-caliber player. Part of that goes along with winning. And I know that's what he's ready to do.

There is still a ways to go to make sure that these two have a strong relationship, but it looks like things are off to a good start.
