Knicks star Kristaps Porzingis knows the anxiety revolving his impending return from injury, but he stressed the eventual timetable for his return date won't be dependent on him or his comfort, but rather the assessment by the medical team around him.

“The return date, it doesn't depend on me,” Porzingis said during Monday's Media Day, according to ESPN's Ian Begley. “I'm not going to be the one to decide. There's going to be testing and some proof that I'm ready, (that) my leg is strong as before or even stronger. There's going to be proof behind that fact. We'll be moving forward, and a lot of the rehab process has been my feedback, how I feel, can we push more. And I've been happy with the process, how it has went, and with the team around me. We're doing the right thing.”

There have been rumblings that Porzingis could potentially sit out the entire season with this injury, as he said there is no protocol for a guy his size, given his 7-foot-3, 240-pound frame.

The franchise will be mightily careful with their franchise star, given the devastating nature that a re-injury to his torn ACL can cause and will likely prefer to give him additional time to recover if he is to come back late in the season, with the Knicks already outside of playoff contention.

Porzingis will have to pass strength tests in his injured left leg before he can be cleared for on-court activities, but his progress so far is encouraging, suffering no setbacks through the process as of yet.
