New York Knicks forward Marcus Morris will not be playing against the Los Angeles Lakers due to a sore neck.

The team announced the decision hours before tip-off at Staples Center. Guard Dennis Smith Jr. was also ruled out for the Knicks as he deals with a strained left oblique.

Marcus Morris will be missed on the offensive end of the floor as he's the leading scorer of the Knicks. In his last game against the Los Angeles Clippers, he scored a career-high 38 points in a devastating loss.

The 30-year-old forward is averaging a career-high 19.1 points per game to go along with 5.5 rebounds and 1.2 assists. He has arguably been one of the best players on the team this year, which is also why a lot of teams are interested in trading for the veteran with the trade deadline fast approaching.

Entering Tuesday's game, the Knicks are 10-26 on the season, which is the third-worst record in the Eastern Conference.

Despite the disappointing season, Morris has made it clear that he wishes to stay with the team. It is worth noting that the veteran forward backed out of a deal with the San Antonio Spurs in the offseason and decided to sign a one-year, $15 million contract with The Big Apple franchise.

The Knicks are seeking to snap their two-game losing streak against the 29-7 Lakers. The Purple and Gold are currently on a five-game win streak and on top of the Western Conference.
