The New York Knicks and Michael Beasley are nearing an agreement on a one-year deal worth $2.1 million, according to Michael Scotto of Basketball Insiders.

The 28-year-old is coming off a productive season with the Milwaukee Bucks despite playing in limited minutes off the bench, averaging 9.4 points on career-highs of 53.2 percent from the field and 41.9 percent from 3-point range along with 3.4 rebounds per game. This includes scoring double figures 25 times while notching three 20-point performances last season.

There were reports a few weeks ago that Beasley had received a three-year, $15 million deal from Shandong Golden Stars from the Chinese Basketball Association, and the Golden State Warriors had also expressed interest in adding him to the mix. He brings a proven scoring option off the bench for the Knicks that could step into a larger role if need be if the team were to move All-Star forward Carmelo Anthony at any point this summer or next season.

What also is interesting about this signing is that now both the top two selections from the 2008 NBA Draft are under similar contract with former league MVP Derrick Rose receiving the same deal with the Cleveland Cavaliers last month. The Knicks mark the sixth team that Beasley has played for in his first nine years in the league.
