Mike Woodson will interview for the New York Knicks' head coaching position with new president Leon Rose. However, the former Knicks tactician will have to battle it out with Tom Thibodeau, Kenny Atkinson, Jamahl Mosely, Will Hardy and Ime Udoka.

Woodson compiled a record of 109-79 with the Knicks in three seasons. The 2012-13 New York squad is the last team in franchise history to have a winning record and make the playoffs. Woodson just so happened to be the coach of that club.

In an interview with Ian Begley of SNY, Woodson talked about why he believes he's the right man for the Knicks job.

“I did my job when I was here. We won games. The fan base was engaged. I walked out of the Garden many nights thinking that the fans were proud and excited about what we were doing,” Mike Woodson said.

“Am I capable of coming back to New York and helping them build a winning team again? I feel confident in that, I absolutely do. I think with the people in charge, with Leon (Rose) and (GM) Scott (Perry) and Jim (Dolan) and everyone else that they hired on board, they will build a winner. At the end of the day, it takes everybody being on board to make it happen. That's what we did (the last time I was here). We all had a great working relationship when I was here. That can definitely happen again.”

The Knicks have been a walking disaster since the 2012-13 season. To make matters even worse, the organization had to watch superstars Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving sign with the other team in New York last summer, the Brooklyn Nets.

The Knickerbockers had cap space to sign KD and Irving, but neither star even took a meeting with New York.

Before the 2019-20 season was suspended in March, the Knicks only had 21 wins. They won't be among the 22 teams partaking in the “bubble” games down in Orlando, Florida.

It will be interesting to see if Rose has interest in bringing Woodson back to the Big Apple.
