The New York Knicks have a gem in rookie big man Mitchell Robinson.

Tuesday against the Orlando Magic at Madison Square Garden, Robinson become the first Knicks rookie to post consecutive games with five or more blocks since the 1973-74 season when blocks were first tracked officially, via Marc J. Spears of The Undefeated.

Mitchell Robinson entered Tuesday averaging 2.2 blocks per game, which was good for third place in the NBA. Not bad for a player who was the 36th overall pick in the 2018 NBA Draft.

Robinson, fellow rookie Kevin Knox and second-year point guard Dennis Smith Jr. — who the Knicks acquired in the Kristaps Porzingis trade with the Dallas Mavericks — are the three bright spots this season in what has been another terrible year in New York. The Knickerbockers entered Tuesday at 12-48, 15th place in the Eastern Conference standings. They are now 13-48 after defeating the Orlando Magic at MSG.

Robinson still has to develop his offensive game, but he has plenty of time to do that this summer. For now, his biggest impact is on the defensive end and it's been really fun to watch him swat shots left and right this season. The 20-year-old should be taking tips from DeAndre Jordan, who is kind of an older version of Robinson.
