Poor Mitchell Robinson.

The New York Knicks rookie big man has been sidelined since Dec. 16 with a sprained ankle, and in rehab for his ankle, he apparently injured his groin and will now be out even longer, according to Marc Berman of the New York Post.

This is also the second time Robinson has dealt with ankle issues, as he also sprained his ankle during the Knicks' season-opening win over the Atlanta Hawks.

In 28 games on the year, Robinson is averaging 4.7 points, 3.9 rebounds and 1.8 blocks over 17.2 minutes per game while shooting 64 percent from the floor and 53.1 percent from the free-throw line.

He has made a great impact defensively throughout the season, including in a loss to the Orlando Magic back on Nov. 11 when he blocked nine shots.

The 20-year-old has had a very interesting road to the NBA. He had committed to play basketball at Western Kentucky for the 2017-18 campaign, but he was then suspended indefinitely for violating team rules. Then, in September 2017, Robinson announced he was going to forego college and enter the NBA.

Teams were completely aware of Robinson's size, athleticism and raw talent, but there were concerns about the fact that he had not played a second of basketball on the NCAA level, so scouting reports were rather limited.

As a result, Robinson fell to 38th in the draft, where the Knicks nabbed him.

If he can just stay healthy, he looks like a potential steal for a New York team that is suddenly teeming with young talent. Robinson would certainly form a nice frontcourt tandem with Kristaps Porzingis once Porzingis gets healthy.
