After enjoying one of his best games of the season on Friday night, New York Knicks big man Mitchell Robinson fractured his right hand early in the third quarter. Per ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski, the defensive mainstay will undergo surgery and miss 4-6 weeks.

Robinson went up to block a shot, then came down and hit Knicks teammate Julius Randle's elbow. The third-year center stayed in the game shortly and proceeded to attempt two free throws, but you could tell Robinson was in some clear pain. After exiting, it was revealed shortly after he suffered a fractured hand.

Robinson is averaging 8.4 points and 8.4 rebounds this season for the Knicks, while starting all 27 games he's featured in. Although his impact offensively hasn't been great, Robinson is one of New York's best defenders. He had also previously complained about his role in the Knicks rotation on social media, making it clear that he deserves to be a bigger part of the team.

Veteran Taj Gibson is expected to fill in for the former Western Kentucky star for the time being. The Knicks pulled out a 109-91 win over the Wizards on Friday night, led by Julius Randle's 24 points and 18 rebounds.

New York hasn't dealt with too many injury problems just yet this season, so hopefully, this is the only exception for the organization moving forward. With a 12-15 record, the Knicks are currently sitting in eighth place in the Eastern Conference.
