The New York Knicks plan on either reassigning Steve Mills or parting ways with him, according to sources that spoke with Frank Isola of The Athletic. GM Scott Perry could be fired as well, meaning owner James Dolan could have to hire a new president, general manager and head coach.

While there will be plenty of interest in the Knicks' front office job since it's New York, one NBA exec who spoke with Howard Beck of Bleacher Report doubts Dolan “wants what a good GM will bring.”

There are plenty of seasoned, capable GMs out there, if Dolan can break his old habit of hiring only loyalists or celebrities and if he's willing to give the next GM the necessary authority. That's still a big “if.”

“Doubt he wants what a good GM will bring,” said one veteran executive. “Disagreement. Pushback. Different decisions than he might want.”

Dolan is universally recognized as the worst owner in the NBA, maybe in all of sports. Mills was promoted to run the Knicks following the dismissal of Phil Jackson in 2017. However, New York continues to be a walking disaster. The common denominator? James Dolan.

There are some fans in New York who believe the Knicks won’t be good again until Dolan sells the team. They might be right.
