The New York Knicks waived guard Allonzo Trier in order to claim recently waived Brooklyn Nets swingman Theo Pinson, per SNY's Ian Begley.

Theo Pinson was a standout guard/forward at the University of North Carolina, spending four years and winning a national title with the Tar Heels. The 6-foot-5 swingman went undrafted during the 2018 draft, later signing with the Nets after a summer league appearance.

The North Carolina native agreed to a two-way deal, spending most of his time with G League affiliate Long Island Nets and appearing in 18 total regular-season games with the big-league Nets during the 2018-19 season.

Pinson spent more time with the Nets this past season, making 33 appearances with only nine G League games played. With Brooklyn, he averaged 3.6 points and 1.7 assists in 11.1 minutes per game, shooting under 30.0 percent from the field.

Meanwhile, Allonzo Trier was originally a two-way player for the Knicks after going undrafted from the University of Arizona in the same draft class as Pinson. A fast start to his NBA career led Trier to signing a normal deal with New York early into his rookie season, including a team option for 2019-20. The ‘Bockers exercised it, but Trier's sophomore campaign was marked with a long stretch of benching and getting excluded from the Knicks' rotation of both head coach David Fizdale and Mike Miller.

Pinson was waived by the Nets on Tuesday and picked up by the Knicks on Friday as the NBA's transaction window is open between June 23-30.

The Nets are among the 22 franchises invited to restart the season in Orlando, Florida. On the other hand, the Knicks will head into the long stretch of an offseason waiting on the 2020 draft in October and free agency that same month.
