The New York Knicks could wind up shifting their strategy to target Anthony Davis if they manage to land the top overall selection in Tuesday's NBA Draft Lottery, according to Shams Charania of Stadium.

“The Knicks getting the No. 1 overall pick impacts the Anthony Davis potential trade talks,” said Charania. “I’m told if the Knicks do get that No. 1 overall pick they would then shift their focus toward a potential deal for Anthony Davis.”

A trade package would involve pairing Zion Williamson and the Knicks' top selection from last season, Kevin Knox, in order to garner Davis' services.

“There wouldn't be another team out there that has a better package than the Knicks if they're able to get the No. 1 pick,” said Charania.

The way the Knicks are seeing this, guaranteeing an asset like Davis would give them not only an established star, but a player to fish out other impending free agents like Kyrie Irving and Kevin Durant, who are looking to align with other stars.

New York would be giving the Pelicans young talent to rebuild with in Knox, an unpolished, but top-flight scorer, and Williamson, who is viewed as a generational talent.

In return, the Knicks would ensure themselves and their fan base some immediate expectations if they can trade for The Brow and bring another All-Star caliber player along with him as a free agent.

While Knicks fans have salivated at the opportunity to grow a monster like Williamson proved to be during his lone college season, it seems the franchise has other plans – no longer looking to strengthen their rebuild, but to get immediate rewards for their assets — if they can land it.

The Phoenix Suns and the Cleveland Cavaliers also boast an equal 14% chance to garner the top pick in Tuesday's NBA Draft Lottery.
