The city of New York has just successfully secured its most recent basketball championship. However, the sad news is that it does not directly invlove the New York Knicks. Although the side does carry the organization's name, Knicks Gaming‘s recent success in the inaugural NBA 2K League does nothing to help the actual Knicks' chances of winning a championship in the NBA anytime soon.

Nevertheless, it remains to be quite an achievement for Knicks Gaming, who were actually considered to be the underdogs of the tournament. The side finally got its hands on the championship trophy (and grand prize) after defeating Heat Check Gaming in the league's championship series.

The NBA's official Twitter account shared a video of the moments following the final buzzer. It was indeed a glorious victory for Knicks Gaming.

The NBA's debut run in the world of esports has been a smashing success. The three-month tournament held in Long Island City, New York fared quite well, as it generated a lot of buzz from both within and outside the gaming community.

The 17-team tournament involved squads that were all officially affiliated with NBA teams. According to Jacob Wolf of ESPN, the league is already looking at an expansion for next season.

“Four new teams — affiliated with the Atlanta Hawks, Brooklyn Nets, Los Angeles Lakers and Minnesota Timberwolves — will join the league, bringing the number of participants up to 21 organizations,” wrote Wolf.

Despite being on the esports stage, this can still be considered as a victory for the Knicks. Hopefully, they can translate this victory in the realm of gaming onto actual on-court success this coming season.
