Along with the Brooklyn Nets and the L.A. Clippers, Jimmy Butler also cited the New York Knicks as his target destinations. However, reports reveal that the Knicks prefer not to part with his assets but sign free agents in 2019.

As reported by Shams Charania of The Athletic, the Clippers and the Nets are willing to make arrangements to accommodate Butler. The Knicks, meanwhile, have made it clear through the summer that they do not want to trade their assets. Instead, the Knicks are building their team via outright free agent acquisitions.

A team executive shared his thoughts on the Butler dilemma, suggesting that it would be better for interested teams to sign him come July as the 29-year-old will be a free agent.

“The price on [Butler] is difficult to pay now, when you can wait and sign him in July,” one team executive told The Athletic, regarding Butler hoping to be traded to a specific destination.

Throughout the regular season, rumors circulated about Butler's displeasure with the Minnesota Timberwolves. Some say that he's not seeing eye-to-eye with the Wolves' young guys, especially Karl-Anthony Towns and Andrew Wiggins.

With Butler's trade request, the Wolves seem to have no choice but to grant his wishes. Butler has the leverage in this ordeal. From the looks of it, Butler won't be donning a Knicks jersey anytime soon. Hopefully, the other teams he mentioned are interested in him and are willing to organize a trade deal.
