The plan for the New York Knicks to run it back with a similar group from a year ago added yet another piece in free agency. Forward Taj Gibson has resigned with the Knicks on a reported one-year, $2.7 million deal.

Gibson played a crucial part in Tom Thibodeau's rotation late in the year a season ago after Mitchell Robinson went down with multiple injuries. Center Nerlens Noel (also back via free agency) was also hit with a couple minor injuries along the way and it really expanded out the minutes for Gibson.

Thibodeau and Gibson have a long relationship that dates back to when Thibs coached the Chicago Bulls and Gibson was a starter for those teams. They met up again in Minnesota with the Timberwolves and reunited with the Knicks last season.

Gibson's deal won't break the bank and it isn't a move that will send shockwaves throughout the league. But it's another good veteran piece that was part of the 41-31 squad from a year ago that will once again be back in the mix for the Knicks.

Leon Rose spent big on day one in free agency with the most notable move for the Knicks arguably being signing Evan Fournier to a lucrative deal. New York has exhausted most of its cap space already but they could find ways to squeeze in another deal or two or perhaps hit the trade market if they deem the point guard position to still need some work. With Gibson back in the mix, it's another depth piece in the front court.
