New York Knicks veteran shooting guard Courtney Lee has been assigned to the G League so he can get big minutes while he recovers from a neck injury, according to Marc Berman of the New York Post.

Lee missed the first 24 games of the season due to the neck injury. He has played in four games since coming back and is averaging 3.5 points, 2.3 rebounds and 1.5 assists while shooting 28.6 percent from the field, 40.0 percent from beyond the arc and 66.7 percent from the free-throw line.

Courtney Lee floated the idea of getting G League minutes after acknowledging Friday his conditioning issue.

“It’s going to take a while to get reactivated to game-speed, game-like situations,” Lee said before the Brooklyn-Charlotte back-to-back. “It’ll probably take couple of weeks to get back a rhythm and feel chemistry with the guys. I’ve been thrown out there with those guys and trying to play on the fly. Next couple of weeks, I’ll start to feel comfortable out there.”

Ideally, the Knicks would like to trade Lee to get his contract off their books as Lee has two years and $25 million left on his contract.

New York won't contend for the playoffs this season and Lee can be a valuable contributor to a playoff team when he's healthy. The Knicks could probably get a couple of draft picks for the 33-year-old, who has been a steady contributor throughout his 11-year career.
