The New York Knicks have been playing better under interim head coach Mike Miller, and they came out and tied a franchise record by pouring in 45 first-quarter points against the Los Angeles Clippers on Sunday afternoon:

The Knicks shot 19-of-25 overall and 5-of-7 from 3-land in the opening quarter. RJ Barrett led the way with 10 points on 4-of-4 shooting, while Julius Randle and Marcus Morris both chipped in seven points. Nine different Knicks scored in the frame.

This explosion came after the Clippers gave up a whopping 140 points to the Memphis Grizzlies on Saturday. There was a lot of talk around the Clippers about their lack of urgency following the ugly loss to the Grizzlies, but clearly the message didn't sink in at the start of Sunday's contest.

However, the Clippers woke from their slumber in the second quarter. LA turned the tables on the Knicks with a 47-24 advantage in the quarter, resulting in a 76-69 Clippers lead at halftime.

Montrezl Harrell had 22 points at the break to lead the game, while Paul George had 21 points and Lou Williams had 19. Williams hit five 3-pointers in the second quarter.

Morris led the Knicks with 16 points in the first half.
