The New York Knicks decided to waive Ivan Rabb in an effort to sign Kenny Wooten to a two-way contract, according to Shams Charania of The Athletic.

There is a lot to like about Wooten, who stands at 6-foo-8 as a forward. He has been impressive in the G League with averages of 7.7 points, 5.9 rebounds and 1.2 assists on 66.0 percent shooting from the field in 23 appearances.

The decision by the Knicks to sign Wooten to a two-way deal was made easier by the fact that he has displayed real growth with the Westchester Knicks.

“His growth from Summer League to now, he's a totally different player,” Westchester Knicks head coach Derrick Alston said of Kenny Wooten late last month, via Ian Begley of SNY. “He's always been, of course, a freak athletically. But now, just, understanding the game. Learning how to roll, where to be on the court, not being in the way, setting screens – all those little things that people assume guys know, but they don't…. Just seeing his growth. How much he wants to learn, it's been really good.”

Moreover, waiving Rabb makes plenty of sense for the ‘Bockers from the standpoint that they already have so many frontcourt players. There isn't a need for additional depth and using a two-way spot unless the potential of the player is believed to be high.

Rabb did not appear in a single regular season with the Knicks, which likely assisted the organization in the decision-making process.
