The New York Knicks plan to keep general manager Scott Perry in his current position, despite the recent hire of new president of basketball operations Leon Rose, according to Steve Popper of Newsday.

“Scott is a well-respected basketball executive who I have known for more than 20 years, and I look forward to continuing to work closely with him as we look to build a winning team in New York,” said Rose in a statement.

This comes roughly two months after the Knicks fired former president Steve Mills and assigned Rose, a former player agent, to that position.

There have been plenty of rumors surrounding what Rose could do upon ascending to the helm, including a brand new staff in the front office and a new head coach after Mike Miller took on interim duties last year.

Yet Rose and Perry will work together for the time being — though he still appears to be on a trial basis.

The Knicks needed to make a decision on Perry, as a mutual option is set to trigger on May 1. According to Popper, the two sides have already agreed on a one-year contract, keeping Perry to help them navigate a rather off 2020 NBA Draft approaching sometime this summer.

Perry will have a short leash to make this partnership with Rose work, and it all starts with the draft. Recent lottery selections like Kevin Knox and RJ Barrett have yet to impress or make the jump into viable stars for the future.

Perry must help the Knicks strike gold in this next draft or make some sound moves in free agency to have a chance to keep being part of this front office, with much to prove ahead.
