Reggie Miller says he’s ‘actually happy’ after David Fizdale gets fired by New York

David Fizdale, Knicks

Hall of Famer and current TNT analyst Reggie Miller says he’s happy for David Fizdale, who was fired by the New York Knicks on Friday.

Miller says Fizdale was dealt a terrible hand with the Knicks.

After missing out on stars Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving in free agency, the Knicks used their cap space on Julius Randle, Bobby Portis, Taj Gibson, Marcus Morris, Wayne Ellington, Elfrid Payton and Reggie Bullock. That’s a lot of power forwards on one team and guys who don’t really move the needle.

How is Fizdale supposed to win games with the roster he had this season? Fizdale was the fall guy in New York. RJ Barrett, Bobby Portis and Taj Gibson showed their support for Fizdale, so you know the players liked him.

At this point, it probably doesn’t matter who is coaching the Knicks. Their roster just isn’t good enough to compete, and it doesn’t help that James Dolan is universally recognized as the worst owner in the NBA.

Assistant coach Mike Miller is a strong possibility to become the Knicks’ interim coach, with Pat Sullivan as a possible candidate too, according to Ramona Shelburne of ESPN. New York has the worst record in the East.
