The New York Knicks hold the number three overall pick in the 2019 NBA Draft, and it is becoming more likely that Duke guard RJ Barrett will be their selection.

Even Barrett himself relayed that he wants to play in New York as a member of the Knicks – always a good start to a player’s career in a certain city. Jordan Schultz of ESPN reported that the team has been thoroughly vetting him via a physical.

Despite the Knicks’ best efforts at tanking extremely hard to land the best odds at drafting Zion Williamson as the top overall pick, the franchise (as well as their fans) were, once again, let down – as the team fell two spots.

While that’s not as precipitous a drop as, say, the Phoenix Suns, Cleveland Cavaliers, Chicago Bulls and Atlanta Hawks experienced during May’s draft lottery, it was still a surefire bummer for Knicks fans who were looking for Zion to lead them to the promised land.

However, the Knicks, unlike the above teams, are actually sitting pretty in a draft that features one mega-star (Zion) and two very evenly matched second-tier prospects in Ja Morant and Barrett.

With the Anthony Davis to New York Knicks rumors being quelled over the past 48 hours, Barrett might serve as the replacement “chosen one”. Barrett will be 19 on draft day, so there’s plenty of upside for the wing to explore alongside Mitchell Robinson, Allonzo Trier, and Kevin Knox.
