New York Knicks star RJ Barrett is working on an important aspect of his game as he set his sights on a new goal this season.

Now in his third year with the Knicks, RJ Barrett wants significant changes and currently, his working on becoming a defensive threat as well.

Revealing his plans after a Monday team practice, Barrett emphasized that he is eyeing to be the NBA firs-team all-defense player from the Knicks.

“The biggest part I’ve been trying to work on is my defense. I want to be first-team all-defense,” Barrett confessed via The New York Post. “I want to be that guy for this team. So just looking at that, can’t give up anything easy.”

“Try to make every night a struggle for anybody I’m guarding,” he added.

As it stands, Barrett seems to be really eager to achieve his goal, having improved his blocks per game from 0.3 last season to 1.0 to date.

Knicks head coach Tom Thibodeau, on the other hand, is unfazed regardless of what Barrett has in mind at the moment. In fact, Thibs is even confident his star guard can ready for the “challenge” they have set for him.

“I’m not worried about RJ. He’s a terrific player,” Thibodeau said. “There’s gonna be some ups and downs. We have to figure things out and get better. But I think he has confidence in who he is and it’s come from his preparation, which is important. We are asking him to do more this year, but I think he’s ready for that challenge.”
