New York Knicks superfan Spike Lee appears to be extremely happy with how the 2019 NBA Draft went for his beloved Knicks. The 62-year-old film director even invoked Michael Jordan's name when discussing No. 3 overall pick RJ Barrett:

“We got the guy we need,” Lee proclaimed, via Mike Vurkonov of The Athletic.

“After I got over not getting Zion. That took a week. Look, you never know. People forget, Michael Jordan was the third pick so you don’t know what’s going to happen.”

While Lee did not exactly profess a like-for-like comparison between Barrett and Jordan, the mere fact that he used these two names in one train of thought speaks volumes of how highly he thinks of the former Duke standout.

As Lee admitted, however, Barrett was not really their first choice coming into the draft. The Knicks had their eyes set on Barrett's Duke teammate, Zion Williamson, who eventually fell into the laps of the New Orleans Pelicans. New York had to settle for the third overall pick in the lottery, which resulted in them linking up with the third-best prospect in the class in Barrett.

Then again, while Barrett is no Zion, he still holds tremendous potential. In his single year with the Blue Devils, the 6-foot-7 forward averaged 22.6 points (on 45.4 percent shooting), 7.6 rebounds, 4.3 assists, 0.9 steals, and 0.4 blocks in 35.3 minutes per contest. The future is definitely bright for Barrett and the Knicks.
