The New York Knicks started the year with a huge bang, executing a trade for Cam Reddish of the Atlanta Hawks for Kevin Knox and other assets. It's easy to see why the team made this trade: after a slow start to the season, the team has turned it around. Reddish both addresses some of the current issues of the team as well as addressing their future.

Tom Thibodeau has been infamously bullish on playing his young players. While he's mellowed out over the years, the Knicks coach made it clear that Cam Reddish won't get a free pass to play just because he's a young player. (via New York Daily)

“You have a finite amount of minutes available in each game — 240 minutes. So you have to play whomever gives you the best chance to win… Everyone’s development is important. So winning has to come first. The team comes first. You play who gives you the best chance to win.”

Cam Reddish was one of the prized prospects in the 2019 draft, but he's struggled to find a significant role with the Hawks. A glut of talented players in his position hampered his development, to the point that the Duke alum asked for a trade this season to find greener pastures.

In New York, Reddish will be playing with former Duke teammate RJ Barrett, Kemba Walker, Julius Randle, and Mitchell Robinson. The Knicks are starting to get back into a groove after slumping in the first few months. They're hoping that Reddish finds the talent and shooting that made him such a tantalizing prospect for the Hawks.
