Has Trey Burke finally found his stride? The New York Knicks guard, who was acquired by the team early this year has set a franchise record. As posted by the Knicks' PR team, the ninth overall pick in the 2013 draft is the first Knicks guard to log in 40 points and 10 assists since Stephon Marbury:

In a 137-128 loss to the Charlotte Hornets, Burke's final stat line was 42 points, 12 assists, and a rebound in 41 minutes of action. He made 19 of his 31 shots. In 28 games with the Knicks, Burke is logging in 11.1 points and 3.7 assists so far.

Burke has been the Knicks' starting guard for the past two games. He took over the spot from Emmanuel Mudiay and Frank Ntilikina. It's an opportunity he worked hard for. Being the ninth pick in the draft back in 2013, he has not lived up to expectations as of yet. His first three seasons with the Utah Jazz were subpar. Last season with the Washington Wizards was a learning experience.

Per Stefan Bondy of NY Daily News:

“I think last season there was times opportunity got taken away from me,” Burke said of his one-year stint with the Wizards. “People would say, ‘It’s your fault.’ Others would say otherwise.

“I think this is the first time since my rookie season where I’m in a situation where I can play extended minutes, I can play through mistakes. I don’t make one or two mistakes and I’m snatched out of the game.”

After a stint with the G League, Trey Burke signed a minimum contract with a team option next season with the Knicks. They are set to host the Philadelphia 76ers next who have momentum on their side after qualifying for the playoffs. They have several games to climb up the ranks in the Eastern Conference.

The Knicks, meanwhile, are out of the playoffs and the next few games have no bearing. But for Burke, the game serves as another opportunity to prove that he belongs in the NBA.
